Overall I would absolutely recommend the restaurant for breakfast.

But it needs a bit of love just to make it feel like it’s cared for. That wasn’t under the control of anyone we encountered at the restaurant so I don’t blame them. There were holes in the flashing below the roof where water damage was occurring and the landscaping was overgrown. My one complaint was that the place was pretty rough looking on the outside. It doesn’t feel like a chain restaurant one bit. But to me, it gave the place a sense of history and identity. The atmosphere may be an acquired taste as it’s pretty kitschy. She was friendly and made us feel welcomed. Our server was attentive and kept our drinks filled. I got sausage patties and they were crispy, but on the edge of being over cooked. So if you don’t want a sweet side steer clear. They were loaded with cinnamon and sugar. The baked apples were not out of a can, but appeared to be house made. Our eggs were scrambled, so hard to really mess up.

Not too sweet with the slightest bit of twangy malt flavor to it. It had those crispy parts that give a pancake the best texture and the flavor was spot on. I don’t care as much about how fluffy a pancake is as much as I care about the crispiness of the outside and edges. breakfast side, and a pancake bigger than your head. My husband and I both ordered the Eye Opener which included two eggs cooked to order, choice of breakfast meat and. I wish I could give a 4.5 as almost everything was great. We ate breakfast here on our last day in the Outer Banks. The food was nothing wonderful but the meals were cooked. My son also mentioned there was no soap in the bathroom. When we left the restaurant my son said when he used the bathroom he had to wait and someone wearing a staff tshirt came out of the bathroom leaving urine all over the seat and did not wash his hands. She seemed concerned and said she would address the issue. I spoke with the lady at the gift shop and talked to her about what we observed. A waitress finally came to clean the mess using a broom to sweep the maple syrup and left the mess smeared across the floor. Two different families were seated and both got up and left without ordering. When we first arrived we noticed spilt maple syrup on the floor, the staff walked thru the mess as they escorted people to the tables. My husbands utensil set was stuck to the table, the waiter even had. I have never seen such a dirty eating establishment. This restaurant is filthy! The decor is cluttered and dusty.
